Vienna Reading Centre accredits Topcon imaging products
Topcon (GB) Ltd is pleased to announce that Vienna Reading Centre (VRC) accredits Topcon imaging products (instrument, software).
The Vienna Reading Centre (VRC) was founded in 2005 as a subunit of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry at the Medical University of Vienna. It was built to perform systematic scientific analysis of OCT images provided by clinical sites within international multicentre studies and to forward the data to sponsor for further analysis.
Currently the VRC manages five different multi-centre trials from four different sponsors. The spectrum of applications has been extended from optical coherence tomography to colour fundus photography, fluorescence angiography, microperimetry and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. The centre works with approximately 1400 investigators in around 280 cities all over the world, with ca. There are approximately 202 Clinical Research Assistants in about 400 centres.
Since its start with the evaluation of OCT examinations in Novartis’ EXCITE trial, the VRC has rapidly advanced to a global player in ophthalmic imaging analysis.
The VRC has years of experience in reading optical coherence tomography results. Clinical studies conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry at the Medical University of Vienna has already helped develop new protocols for spectral domain optical coherence tomography. With this experience the VRC are able to define new standards in ophthalmology. These standards concern not only results regarding new pharmaceutical drugs but also understanding how to use new technologies in different diseases.
As the first fully digitalized reading centre, the VRC has expanded its spectrum from OCT to the evaluation of SD-OCT with over 400 certified study sites around the world, of which the majority are in Europe. The VRC is one of the most important partners for the pharmaceutical industry.
