Optegra and Topcon host OCT training for local optometrists
As part of the specialist eye hospital group's commitment to continuing professional development for optometrists, Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire teamed up with Topcon, global leader in ophthalmic equipment manufacture, to host an OCT training evening on Wednesday 1st July.
The event was well attended by 26 local optometrists and the main presentation was given by Optegra Hampshire Specialist Retinal Consultant, Mr Debendra Sahu.
This was followed by interactive CET workshops for groups of beginners and advanced users, supported by Topcon University and their Clinical Affairs team.
Delivering a programme with a specific focus on Ocular Coherence Tomography, topics covered included: analysis of normal and abnormal macular scans; top tips on how to optimise scan quality; and full glaucoma OCT workup including use of disc, macular and anterior scan protocols. Topcon’s new Swept Source DRI OCT Triton, together with the hugely popular Maestro 3D OCT were used for the workshops, giving delegates the opportunity to see two of the best currently available OCT systems in action.
Commenting on the event, Education and Clinical Affairs Manager, UK & Ireland for Topcon GB Ltd, Dr Rachel Hiscox said: “Topcon were delighted to get the opportunity to team up with Optegra to provide an evening of OCT education for local optometrists. We hope that all delegates went away with some new skills which can be applied in practice, whether they were brand new to OCT or experienced users. With the success of this event, Topcon looks forward to providing more high quality education in conjunction with Optegra in the future.”
Julieanne Page, Business Development Manager for Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire, said, “The evening was a great success and there was an excellent atmosphere. Mr Sahu’s talk was extremely informative and interactive and he then mingled with the breakout groups giving help and advice in support of the Topcon team. Optometrists' feedback was very positive and left them feeling much more confident when using their OCT and interpreting results. In fact the event was over-subscribed and so we are planning more events locally as well as looking to roll this out across Optegra’s other UK hospitals.”
After receiving an overwhelming response from the optometrists in the local area, Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire has already set dates for two further CET evenings with Topcon. To book a place on the 12th August or 16th September events, please call 01329 316737.
